Like many Jews in the 1930s, the Mosses fled their homes, leaving many treasured artworks behind. The Nazis sold these paintings, keeping the profits for themselves. The FBI recently discovered one of the stolen paintings in a New York museum, and the museum has given up all rights to the art to restore it to the family, even though they acquired it without knowledge of its history. Did it do the right thing? What's fair?
